Wetsuits for Women
Neoprene for more freedom. And for your best sessions.

Attention ladies: The new wetsuit is waiting!

A wetsuit is your second skin on the water and makes the crucial difference between a freezing cold or an unforgettable session. We know how it feels when the first waves roll in at the coast and the air smells of freedom. Out of this passion, we at Surfpirates have put together a wide selection of women’s wetsuits.

For us, it’s all about giving you the best feeling on the water (and already during purchase!). That’s why you’ll only find suits in our women’s wetsuit range that we test ourselves on the spot and in the line-up. Perfect if you want to buy your first wetsuit or upgrade and optimize your setup for the next season.

Expert tip: Your extra buoyancy

When you get a wetsuit, you don’t just get protection from the cold, but also a real performance bonus that is often overlooked: the extra buoyancy. Neoprene is filled with tiny air bubbles that keep you afloat. Many female surfers swear that this extra buoyancy makes paddling much easier and saves energy. This way you can spend more time on the water without exhausting yourself. That’s a huge advantage, especially for beginners!

What size and fit should a women’s wetsuit have?

The right fit is everything when it comes to a wetsuit. Nothing is more annoying than cold currents collecting inside the suit or the suit restricting your freedom of movement. Here are a few tips on how to choose the right size to get the most out of your new suit.

  • 1. Tight but not restrictive: A wetsuit must fit snugly against the body. Only a minimal layer of water should form between skin and neoprene. If it’s too loose, cold water can flow in (the so-called “flushing”), and the warming effect is lost.
  • 2. No wrinkles: Make sure there are no large folds, especially on the back and under the arms. They restrict your movement while paddling.
  • 3. Length check: For a full wetsuit, sleeves and legs should reach the wrists and ankles. For a women’s shorty wetsuit, it should fit snugly on thighs and upper arms.
  • 4. First impression can be deceiving: When trying on a new wetsuit in-store, it can often feel a bit stiff. Give it time to adjust to your body. In the water, the neoprene softens and adapts perfectly.

How do I choose the right neoprene thickness?

The thickness of your wetsuit depends directly on the water temperature. The air bubbles in the neoprene provide buoyancy and, most importantly, insulation.

  • 1.5 mm - 2 mm (Shorty): Ideal for warm summer days and tropical conditions. The women’s shorty wetsuit is perfect for maximum comfort and freedom of movement.
  • 3/2 mm: The most versatile option. Perfect for spring and fall at many European spots. It offers a good balance between warmth and flexibility.
  • 4/3 mm: For cold days in fall or spring. With this suit, you can still enjoy your session even in colder winds.
  • 5/4 mm to 6/5 mm (Hooded): If you want to get on the water in winter, this is your ticket to happiness. A women’s wetsuit with 5 mm thickness and integrated hood (hooded) keeps you warm even in icy conditions.

No matter which suit you choose – with us you’ll definitely find the right model that makes you happy at your spot. Just use our filter options.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about wetsuits

How should a wetsuit feel when I try it on?

A new wetsuit must fit tightly. When you try it on, it may feel a bit stiff and restrictive when dry. That’s completely normal. In the water, the material softens and adapts perfectly to your body. What’s important is that there are no large air pockets under the neoprene and that it doesn’t pinch in the crotch or shoulders.

How do I properly care for my wetsuit?

Proper care greatly extends the life of your wetsuit. Rinse it with fresh, cold water after every session and hang it to dry on a wide hanger. Important: Do not dry in direct sunlight! UV light makes the material porous over time.

Do I need additional equipment with a wetsuit?

That depends entirely on the water temperature. In colder conditions, neoprene accessories are essential:

  • Wetsuit Boots: Keep your feet warm and protect them from sharp stones at the spot.
  • Wetsuit Gloves: Essential when your hands start to go numb.
  • Neoprene Hood: Protects your head from the cold. Especially recommended with 5/4 mm or 6/5 mm suits for winter.

What is the difference between Front Zip and Back Zip?

The Back Zip (zipper on the back) is the classic and very easy to put on and take off. The Front Zip (zipper on the chest) is a bit trickier but offers more freedom of movement and keeps you warmer as less water can get in.
